In this keynote David Holmgren builds on the lessons of 40 years of permaculture and kindred activism to articulate how the bottom up permaculture strategies that focus at the personal, household, enterprise and community level can be effective where mass movements to demand top down change are repeatedly derailed or simply reinvent the problems in new forms (the solution becomes the problem).
In the final plenary of APC10, David Holmgren drew on lessons from over three decades of permaculture thinking and activism to distill pointers for using ethics and design principles to surf the energy descent future (without being dumped by king waves).
David recently gave a presentation to students of Aula Abierta, in Argentina, entitled Bushfire Resilient Design for Land & Climate Care.
Disillusioned social and political activists are just starting to recognise permaculture as a potentially effective pathway for social change as 20th century style mass movements seem to have lost their potency.
